About my ratings

Perhaps because of my day job, I'm a tough rater. Everything 3/5 and above I consider worth the time and money. If I purchase on Etsy or a similar platform and the puzzle is as expected, I will give a top rating on the platform because of how seller ratings work, but here "as expected" is probably a 3/5 in most cases.

Maui, Linnea Pergola

Liberty, 703 pieces. The extensive whimsy structure here is the star of the show, though I also noticed some split connectors--is this a new Liberty addition? I like it. 4/5

Catherine Jacobs, Tree of Life

Thom Spencer, 108 pieces. This small puzzle packs a punch because the cutting style interacts so well with the image that, despite not being color line cut in the conventional sense, the straight edges and curves both work to deceive the eye. 5/5 a gem

All in a Summer's Day

Par, 750 pieces. Some color fading, which affected the whimsies a bit differently, but not enough to make assembly more difficult (than it already was). Nice irregular edge and overall a great example of the classic Par style. 7/10

Thom Spencer, Puzzle Parley 2021

Thom Spencer/Jigsaw Art, 50-ish pieces. Cutting out the center of each piece really changes its visual "fit," making for an intriguing change. 4/5

Katherine Gordon, 50 Ghosts

The Crafty Layer, 50 pieces. This cluster tray puzzle is very small and the pieces are correspondingly thin, so take care, but it could make a nice host/ess gift for someone. 3/5

Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Albert Bierstadt

Liberty, 391 pieces. I think this is a large piece version; notably, with large pieces, the design splits some connectors, which adds back in a bit more difficulty. Lots of interest in the border, too. 3/5

Bag Ladies

Stave, 500 pieces. A true collector's piece, not super difficult because of the areas of color but great fun to do with some amazing dropouts. 8/10

Swirl Me Around

Whimsy Wood, 500 pieces. The geometric cut works well here (it has dot-matrix-style letters of the alphabet as the whimsies, including the signature big W). 3/5

Children's Games, Pieter Breughel

Liberty, 795 pieces. Very challenging because of the size and the many dark/similar-colored areas, combined with lots of detail that is confined enough to not cross many pieces. Within shouting distance of my "this is work, not fun" threshold, though not over it--proceed with caution! 3/5

now *this* is an angel whimsy!

Sorceror Supreme

Enigma, 356 pieces. Hand-cut with whimsies referencing the storyline (word whimsies tend to create very distinctive shapes leading to easier assembly, but I don't mind when there's enough other stuff going on to create a challenge). Nicely cut with a challenging irregular edge. 4/5
