About my ratings

Perhaps because of my day job, I'm a tough rater. Everything 3/5 and above I consider worth the time and money. If I purchase on Etsy or a similar platform and the puzzle is as expected, I will give a top rating on the platform because of how seller ratings work, but here "as expected" is probably a 3/5 in most cases.

Matte Stephens, Central Park Fifth Ave

Artifact, 439 pieces. This is a very nice Artifact with lots of NY-themed and park-themed whimsies, including some large multipiece whimsies that didn't make sense until I put them together (I'm looking at you, baseball player).  I still don't know what one of the whimsies is--chess piece in a scarf?  Dalek in a scarf?  4/5

Starry Night over the Rhone, Vincent Van Gogh

Liberty, 484 pieces. I sometimes wonder what the people at Liberty think being French means, though the weird guys in berets are probably required to make the whimsies legible in silhouette.  Anyway, a very nice Impressionist puzzle with good colors.  4/5

Blue Heaven, by Heussenstamm

Peaceful, 369 pieces.  A very nice image.  I can't quite figure the theme of the whimsies, maybe vaguely Christian.  3/5

Grizzly Bear, by Sue Coccia

Liberty, 471 pieces. Lots of interesting stuff going on in this one--very hard to see all of it until the puzzle is fully assembled.  4/5

Patricia Betteo, Outsider Insider

Artifact, 409 pieces.  Color blocks in this puzzle are sometimes deceptive--though there's a trend in placement, that's not a guarantee! For whatever reason, I couldn't help but think of the circular whimsy with the trunk on the bottom as a 60s TV, even though "tree" or "thought bubble" seems somewhat more likely. 3/5

Dragon, by Sue Coccia

Liberty, 469 pieces. I like the Liberty version better than the Wentworth version of this puzzle--in part because it features three tesselated lizards!  3/5

Pencil Collage

Wentworth, 560 pieces. Repeating geometric shapes plus different patterns for the pencils (and occasional crayon) made this one a fun challenge.  4/5

Gustav Klimt, Garden Path with Chicken

Liberty, 495 pieces.   Lots of chicken whimsies, as well as a multipiece cow for some reason.  The colors around the path are very similar--only close inspection discloses enough differences to subgroup.  3/5

Tangled Puzzle, Rachel Arbuckle

Wentworth, 300 pieces.  I'm guessing that lilies and elephants have some sort of symbolic relationship, because otherwise the repeating pieces here are hard to explain.  The elephants go in rows and circles through the puzzle, which is kind of cool.  This was pretty tough, in part because the edges are asymmetric--I was worried right up until the end that I might miss a piece.  3/5

Claude Monet, San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk

Liberty, 557 pieces.  Beautiful colors--I think that Impressionists may be the best source of pictures for puzzles because of the way the colors flow and sometimes echo from one part of the painting to another.  4/5

Sailboat Regatta, Ski Weld

Liberty, 486 pieces.  A lot of blue!  This one worked well assembled methodically.  3/5
