About my ratings

Perhaps because of my day job, I'm a tough rater. Everything 3/5 and above I consider worth the time and money. If I purchase on Etsy or a similar platform and the puzzle is as expected, I will give a top rating on the platform because of how seller ratings work, but here "as expected" is probably a 3/5 in most cases.

Five Frogs, 41 pieces. I never get tired of this type of puzzle! 4/5

Silver, Audrey

Five Frogs Woodworking, 221 pieces. Since my daughter is going to take Audrey's other portrait when she goes to college, I commissioned a second one, which turned out equally wonderful. Different sections have different cut styles--with a tiny bit of overlap as they transition--including great John Stokes III-style swirls. 10/10

a bit of swirl as it transitions into the more random curves

Painted Wood-Dragon Tails

Five Frogs, 66 pieces. I really enjoy the classic Five Frogs cutting style, but this is something different--inspired by John Stokes, Thom Spencer, et al. Each piece is painted and it's fun to assemble (having tried a jigsaw I have no idea how the painting works while the pieces still fit together perfectly). 5/5

Old Faithful

Five Frogs, 47 pieces. Another tiny gem with Five Frogs' distinctive cutting style. 3/5

Moose

Five Frogs, 148 pieces. I love the cutting style of Five Frogs. Tight fit, a nice challenge despite low piece count. 5/5

Pi Pie

Five Frogs Woodworking, 206 pieces.  A great puzzle with twisty pieces that are quite fun to assemble--the twists interfere with visual perception of the image. Math-themed whimsies for some extra interest.  The color line cutting for the central image further adds to the challenge.  7/10 Stave scale.

Christmas Candy Star

Five Frogs Woodworking, 98 pieces. I haven't done one of these for a while but it makes me remember that I really enjoy this cutting style. Super challenging twisty cut with repeating images--amazingly complex for its size.  7/10 (Stave scale)

Eggplant bouquet

Five Frogs, 197 pieces.  Very wriggly pieces.  This is a fun one--very subtle color shifts, and the cutouts make for some tricky visual illusions.  There are also a pair of nearly identical pieces, differing only in color, so you have to place them right!  5/5

Jumbled Painting

Five Frogs, 497 pieces.  Tons of fun--lots of similarly colored patches where shape had to guide assembly, but also enough color to keep it interesting.  7/10 (Stave scale)

Kano Eino, Birds and Flowers of Spring and Summer

Five Frogs. Another wonderfully curly cut, with a nice Japanese print.  5/5

Oak Leaf

180 pieces, Five Frogs--I love the cutting style and the subtle color shifts in the leaf increased the pleasure.  5/5
