About my ratings

Perhaps because of my day job, I'm a tough rater. Everything 3/5 and above I consider worth the time and money. If I purchase on Etsy or a similar platform and the puzzle is as expected, I will give a top rating on the platform because of how seller ratings work, but here "as expected" is probably a 3/5 in most cases.

Kitchen Garden, Molly Mac Living

Puzzlewood, 315 pieces. I love the dropouts in this puzzle--really ups the difficulty of this charming image. 7/10 Stave scale.

A Plethora of Flowers, Dr. Seuss

Liberty, 479 pieces. This image was clearly created for a wraparound book cover; it offered the opportunity for a "Dr. Seuss" whimsy with a Cat-in-the-Hat style top hat and glove, as well as a nearby bathtub whimsy and some Truffula trees. Very nicely done. 4/5

Dubrovnik Old Town

Puzzlewood, 364 pieces, from an old calendar picture. Puzzlewood makes very distinctive hand-cut puzzles, with small connectors that have stood up very well for me. This one is difficult because of the extensive color-line cutting; though there are connectors that end up differently colored they really don't help assembly as much as you'd think! 3/5

New Yorkistan

Elm, 371 pieces. New Yorker cover; water damage altered the colors but did not distort the piece shapes, fortunately, so the puzzle became harder and somewhat less attractive but still plenty doable. 5/10 very solid Elm construction but the visual distortions mattered.

two-piece whimsy

Karla Gerard, Night Song

Artifact, 321 pieces. A standard Artifact with some whimsies and otherwise geometric pieces with standard connectors. One set of whimsies is interacting by dancing; another is interacting at a distance: playing ball. 3/5

Chequers

Hartmaze, 167 pieces. Another interesting, reasonably priced puzzle with lots of color variation and randomly cut pieces with an irregular edge. 3/5

Chinese Phoenix

Liberty, 429 pieces. Nicely challenging for its size because of the repeated pattern/limited colors. I don't know what the characters surrounding the border say, but it's a nice visual element. Zodiac animal whimsies and some unusual interacting whimsies (the linked butterflies) (closeups from behind). 3/5
