About my ratings

Perhaps because of my day job, I'm a tough rater. Everything 3/5 and above I consider worth the time and money. If I purchase on Etsy or a similar platform and the puzzle is as expected, I will give a top rating on the platform because of how seller ratings work, but here "as expected" is probably a 3/5 in most cases.

12th Man

Carol Barnard Ottenberg/Ledgewood Puzzles, 388 pieces. This Seattle-themed puzzle, cut for the 2014 Puzzle Parley, has some great tricky color line cutting and is in general a delight. The "12" multipiece whimsies are just a bonus. 5/5

Matterhorn-Cervis

Penelope, 150. Standard Penelope photo puzzle, slightly larger pieces than in higher-piece-count puzzles. 3/5

L.A. By Night, Jan Davidson

Liberty, 588 pieces. Most notable feature is the row of multipiece cars across the middle of the puzzle, a clever reference to LA's famously bad traffic. Also some film/music/photo themed assemblies of whimsies. 3/5

Elena Kotliarker, Hanukkah in the Magic Garden

Wentworth, 350 pieces. A rare Judaica puzzle, with a lot of warm colors and a low-key Chagall vibe. Points for themed whimsies! 3/5

Salamander infinity puzzle

Nervous System, 216 pieces. What a delightful variation on the Escher puzzle--it is infinitely tiling but all the salamanders are differently shaped so they only fit in specific places. 4/5

Bookshelf, Colin Thompson

Wentworth, 500 pieces. I've done multiple versions of this, and it's always got lots of fun puzzling detail. 3/5

Black Canyon, Eric Maiorana

Liberty, 520 pieces. Beautiful and unusual (batik) image, a little darker perhaps than my ideal puzzle but a nice change of pace. 3/5
