About my ratings

Perhaps because of my day job, I'm a tough rater. Everything 3/5 and above I consider worth the time and money. If I purchase on Etsy or a similar platform and the puzzle is as expected, I will give a top rating on the platform because of how seller ratings work, but here "as expected" is probably a 3/5 in most cases.

Let it Snowman, Dee Rogers

Misfit Creations, 52 pieces. This is a teaser-style puzzle that is not for the faint of heart. There were times when I was frustrated because the snowflakes are similar enough that a lot of trial and error is required. But it won me over because, eventually, a pattern emerged, and also the fits were just so appallingly clever--I won't show the whole thing, but imagine me saying "Seriously?!" for the closeups when I found them. 7/10

step one: no trick features, thankfully

Partnership, David Galchutt

BCB, approx. 250 pieces. Great dropouts in this one! 3/5

closer look at dropouts (top flower cut off, whoops)

Capo di Noli, Paul Signac

Liberty, 270 pieces. Another lovely image for this small Liberty. 3/5

Parker Fulton, Fall Bounty Wreath

Waterford (Elms), 63 pieces. Cute. 3/5

Shalom Aleichem

Stave, 75 pieces. Seems to be missing from Stave's site now? That's a pity because it's fun. 7/10

Eiffel Tower, Robert Delaunay

Liberty, 479 pieces. Great colors; there's a 3D Eiffel Tower in there that someone better at 3D stuff than I am could assemble. 3/5

not sure I've seen the selfie whimsy before!

Chatauqua Park, Sage Wirth

Liberty, 252 pieces. Pleasant small Liberty with carousel horses. 3/5

Escher Sketch

Stave, 110 pieces. I understand what they were thinking here--an Escher teaser sounds fantastic!--but unfortunately the choice to have all the whimsy pieces essentially the same means that the whimsy assembly was mostly trial and error rather than insight, and I would have called this a two-sword Teaser rather than three because the principle is relatively easy to figure out. It's still a Stave! But maybe greater variation--something like Day and Night or Plane Filling--would have been more fun. 6/10

Vincenzo Chilone, Napoleon Enters Venice

Artifact, 246 pieces. Standard small Artifact with detailed edge. 3/5

multipiece gondola

Songbirds

Puzzle Lab, 285 pieces. This might be my favorite Puzzle Lab puzzle yet--the color line cutting recalls Fathom's precision (though I think Puzzle Lab helped itself out by choosing an image with black lines to do the color line cutting on). 4/5

Kristian Adam, Shroom Town

Artifact, 211 pieces. Elaborate mushroom border! 3/5

I don't love multipiece whimsies that behave like push fit

Peace of Heaven

Elms, 458 pieces. I like a good sky, where you have to use shapes mostly, and this delivered (though there were also small color variations that could be untangled), including with nice dropouts. 7/10
