About my ratings

Perhaps because of my day job, I'm a tough rater. Everything 3/5 and above I consider worth the time and money. If I purchase on Etsy or a similar platform and the puzzle is as expected, I will give a top rating on the platform because of how seller ratings work, but here "as expected" is probably a 3/5 in most cases.

Bursting Blooms, Melissa McKinnon

Stumpcraft, 345 pieces. This seemed to have slightly fewer of Stumpcraft's unusual connectors between non-whimsies. The whimsies are flowers and people interacting with flowers. The image is a nice still life with lots of similar colors throughout. 3/5

Paris La Nuit

Liberty, 518 pieces. Difficulty here comes from the broad areas of darkness, though they actually take up less of the puzzle than you might think. I liked the image; unsurprisingly, French-themed whimsies (but no croissant).  3/5

City Market Sunflower #1

ScrollRight (Etsy seller), 128 pieces. A nice small hand-cut puzzle, with a shiny finish and thicker wood. Pretty image; only one (three-piece) whimsy. Seller has a number of photo puzzles available. 3/5

Songbook, Willy Pogany

Liberty, 425 pieces. An older Liberty cut with pieces that are bigger/subtly different in shape from current Liberty, more like current Peaceful style. 3/5

Porcelain China Plate & Stained Glass window

37 and 47 pieces, Dick Spencer. According to the seller, Spencer was a Massachusetts cutter who made small handcut puzzles. The second one here is double-sided with the same image on each side. Nice little hand-cut puzzles. 3/5

Birds of the Tropics

Liberty, 745 pieces. There's a huge multi-piece bird (puffin? auk?) in the middle! This one had high difficulty because of each of the little pictures--the image was very broken up. Elaborate border as well. 4/5

Wide Eyed and Innocent

Par, 700. I've only ever done one Par, and it's possible my opinions have changed hundreds of puzzles later, but this one was quite good (as a rental from RAR). Strong construction--the picture from the back was picked up and flipped over--and fewer whimsies than Stave, with fairly difficult assembly because of areas of similar color. A few color line cut pieces slipped out when I turned it.  6/10

The British Isles, National Geographic Map

Liberty, 1090 pieces. Wow--what a challenge! Lots of similarly colored areas and "typical" British activities in the whimsies, along with nods to UK naval history. Loved the golfers. 5/5

Apple Tree, 1912, Gustav Klimt

Liberty, 463 pieces. Another difficult puzzle because of the relatively limited color variation--though there were three major kinds of green, two of them were leavened with red and other colors, making it relatively difficult to group them. Lots of apple whimsies, including a rare partial whimsy, and note the fake "foot" in the tractor that tried to trick you into putting the farmer directly on the tractor instead of falling off of it. 3/5
